...WINTER WEATHER ALERT FOR NORTHERN HOUGHTON AND KEWEENAW COUNTIES
UNTIL 1130 PM EST...

A NARROW BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW HAS DEVELOPED OVER
NORTHERN HOUGHTON AND SOUTHERN KEWEENAW COUNTIES THIS EVENING. LATEST
SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS A NARROW BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW MOVING
THROUGH HOUGHTON...HANCOCK...CALUMET AND LAURIUM...WITH VISIBILITIES
REPORTED AT ONE HALF MILE OR LESS ALONG THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF
NORTHERN HOUGHTON COUNTY AT 9 PM.

THIS BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO LIFT TO THE NORTHEAST
ACROSS NORTHERN HOUGHTON AND KEWEENAW COUNTIES THROUGH THE LATE
EVENING HOURS BEFORE MOVING OFFSHORE AFTER MIDNIGHT. SNOWFALL RATES
OF UP TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE WITH THIS BAND. BRIEF
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE SNOW AND BLOWING
SNOW...ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS NEAR LAKE SUPERIOR OR ALONG THE
HIGHER TERRAIN AS GUSTY WINDS WILL ACCOMPANY THIS LAKE EFFECT SNOW
BAND.

USE CAUTION IF TRAVELING IN NORTHERN HOUGHTON AND KEWEENAW COUNTIES
