161 WGAK69 PAFG 071709 FFAAFG URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Flood Watch National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 909 AM AKDT Tue May 7 2024 AKZ833-080115- /O.EXT.PAFG.FA.A.0003.000000T0000Z-240509T0200Z/ /00000.0.IJ.000000T0000Z.000000T0000Z.000000T0000Z.OO/ Yukon Flats- Including the cities of Venetie, Beaver, Circle, Stevens Village, Fort Yukon, Central, and The Steese Highway north of MP 124 909 AM AKDT Tue May 7 2024 ...FLOOD WATCH FOR AN ICE JAM NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is possible. * WHERE...The Yukon River near Circle * WHEN...Through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Residents of Circle should be aware that the breakup front on the Yukon river is approaching and expected to reach Circle later today or Wednesday. No overbank flooding has been reported yet. However, as the breakup front moves downstream towards Circle it is likely that small jams will form and release, leading to rapidly changing water levels with the potential for minor or moderate flooding at Circle. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - An ice jam 30 miles upstream of Circle, near Coal Creek, has been holding the past few days. A run of ice and high water passed through Eagle on Monday and is expected to push into the jam near Coal Creek today. This run of high water and ice is expected to break up the jam near Coal Creek today, and cause the break up front and high water to approach Circle later today or Wednesday. - Http://www.weather.gov/aprfc PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you live near or along the Yukon River near Circle stay alert and be prepared to take action. Move vehicles and other valuables to higher ground now.
