446 FXUS62 KCAE 272358 AFDCAE Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Columbia SC 758 PM EDT Sat Apr 27 2024 .SYNOPSIS... Weak high pressure will be over the region through Monday along with partly to mostly cloudy skies and a warming trend. A weak front is expected to bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late Tuesday through Thursday, mainly northern and eastern areas. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Showers continue to decrease in coverage this evening with a loss of daytime heating and forecast soundings indicating a bit drier air pushing in around 850mb. A few sprinkles may remain over the next hour or so but in general, expect dry conditions overnight. Lingering mid and high level clouds and even some patchy low level clouds overnight will once again keep low temperatures relatively mild, in the mid to upper 50s. && .SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/... High pressure aloft builds over the Southeast U.S. early next week which allows temperatures to warm to slightly above normal levels. A weak shortwave trough moves over the ridge axis on Tuesday or Tuesday Night and may bring a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms, especially to the Northern and Western Midlands. && .LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... Above normal H5 heights are likely through the end of next week with a high probability of above normal temperatures. The models and ensembles depict an upper level trough moving over or flattening a ridge axis across the region with a chance of showers and/or thunderstorms Friday afternoon through Saturday. && .AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Expect VFR ceilings across the terminals through the period. Isolated light showers will be dissipating by sunset, keeping dry weather overnight into Sunday. Onshore flow may indicate continued stratus deck tonight into Sunday also, but ceilings are expected to remain mainly vfr. Can not completely rule out a brief mvfr ceiling at ogb closer to the coast around sunrise Sunday, but most models continue to keep vfr ceilings, so low confidence in that brief mvfr possibility. Winds light and variable overnight, then they pick back up out of the south to southwest on Sunday with speeds from 5 to 10 kts. EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...Restrictions possible in early morning fog or stratus each morning. Slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms Tuesday onward. && .CAE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... SC...None. GA...None. && $$
