Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lubbock TX
Issued by National Weather Service San Angelo TX

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 151 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Mid/upper level shortwave energy will approach the area this
afternoon and evening. With the lift and cooling aloft associated
with this feature, there is a chance for showers with an isolated
thunderstorm or two this afternoon into the evening hours.
Otherwise, overnight lows will be 5 to 10 degrees warmer, ranging
from the upper 20s northwest into the mid 30s for our eastern
counties. With a shortwave trough over the area on Wednesday, a
few showers or thunderstorms are possible for our eastern
counties, but the bulk of the activity associated with this trough
will be east/southeast of the area. The warm-up will continue
into Wednesday with highs warming into the upper 50s to mid 60s.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through next Monday)
Issued at 151 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

From Thursday into the weekend upper level ridging will move into
the area, allowing for a warming trend. Temperatures will warm
into the 80s by Friday, with a few readings near 90 not out of the
question by next weekend. The main concern for the forecast
through this weekend will be with fire weather. As temperatures
warm, minimum RH values will be able to drop to around 10% from
Friday through Sunday, and winds will average in the 10 to 20 mph
range through the same time period. Surface winds on Sunday could
increase into the 15 o 25 mph range, pushing fire weather values
closer to critical thresholds.

By early next week, a large trough western trough will begin
moving east across the Desert Southwest toward west Texas. As this
happens, heights/thicknesses will fall in the area, allowing for
cooler temperatures Monday. Around the same time, an upper level
low moving east through southern Canada will cause strong surface
ridging in the central plains, which will push a cold front
through west Texas Monday night into Tuesday morning. Below
normal temperatures will be possible next Tuesday. There is a
slight chance for precipitation with this trough.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1207 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

VFR conditions expected for the next 24 hours. There remains
chances for isolated showers, mainly between 00-06Z, but they
should be light enough to limit any major reductions in
visibilities/CIGS. Light winds this afternoon will shift to the
east by this evening and continue through the overnight hours. By
mid-morning tomorrow, winds will begin to back to the
north/northeast at around 10-12 kts.
