...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS/HIGH WINDS

ALTHOUGH NWS HASTINGS RECEIVED NO REPORTS OF DAMAGING WINDS OR LARGE
HAIL FROM THE CITY OF KEARNEY ITSELF DURING THE MONTH...A FEW SEVERE
STORMS DROPPED LARGE HAIL OF QUARTER TO GOLF BALL SIZE IN THE
AMHERST AND MILLER AREAS ON THE EVENING OF THE 1ST. IN TERMS OF
STRONG WINDS...ONE OF THE HIGHEST MEASURED PEAK GUSTS OF THE MONTH
AT KEARNEY AIRPORT WAS ONLY 40 MPH FROM THE NORTHWEST ON THE
13TH...WHICH OCCURRED IN THE WAKE OF A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
(PLEASE NOTE THIS WAS NOT NECESSARILY THE TRUE PEAK GUST OF THE
MONTH...AS THIS AUTOMATED SYSTEM ONLY TRANSMITS ROUTINE WIND
OBSERVATIONS EVERY 20 MINUTES).
