INCLUDING THE CITY OF...SKAGWAY
1137 PM AKDT TUE JUL 26 2016

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...

THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* SE AK...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREA...NORTHERN INNER CHANNELS
  INCLUDING SKAGWAY.

* FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT

* LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN OF 1 TO 2 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS IS EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHERN
SOUTHEAST ALASKA WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. THIS RAIN COMBINED
WITH ALREADY ELEVATED WATER LEVELS FROM PREVIOUS RAINFALL WILL
LIKELY CAUSE WATER LEVELS ALONG THE TAIYA RIVER TO RISE ABOVE
THE MODERATE FLOOD STAGE OF 17 FEET BY LATE WEDNESDAY EVENING.
THE FORECAST PEAK STAGE IS AROUND 18 FEET LATE WEDNESDAY
NIGHT...WITH ONLY A GRADUAL DECREASE IN WATER LEVELS EXPECTED
  THROUGH THU NIGHT.

* AT THE FORECAST PEAK STAGE OF AROUND 18 FEET...THE NATIONAL
PARK SERVICE MAY CLOSE THE CHILKOOT TRAIL DUE TO FLOODING
IMPACTS ASSOCIATED WITH HIGH WATER IN THE SURROUNDING
WATERSHED. WATER WOULD BE HIGHER THAN KNEE DEEP ON LOWER
PORTIONS OF THE CHILKOOT TRAIL AND MAKE TRAIL ORIENTATION AND
NAVIGATION DIFFICULT IN THAT AREA. ALSO THE NATIONAL PARK
SERVICE ADVISES AGAINST BOATING AND OTHER RECREATIONAL WATER-
BASED ACTIVITIES ON THE TAIYA RIVER ABOVE A STAGE OF 17 FEET.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
FLOODING IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.

PERSONS LIVING ALONG STREAMS SHOULD STAY ALERT AND BE PREPARED TO
TAKE ACTION IF A WARNING OR ADVISORY IS ISSUED... OR FLOODING IS
OBSERVED.

THIS STATEMENT WILL BE UPDATED BY 8 AM AKDT TONIGHT OR SOONER IF
CONDITIONS WARRANT.
