Fire Weather Planning Forecast for E ND, NW and WC MN
National Weather Service Grand Forks ND
955 AM CDT Tue Oct 17 2017

.UPDATE...

Min RHs today will be a bit lower across Eastern ND than yesterday
around 20% in some locations. Southwest winds near 20mph with
gusts up to 30mph could make near critical fire weather
conditions for a brief period late this afternoon.

Tomorrow much stronger westerly winds will bring in a drier
airmass and min RHs under 20 percent. A prolonged period of
critical fire weather conditions are possible.

.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...

Gusty winds will be the main feature the next few days along with
temperatures.

Today will see afternoon temperatures rise about 4 to 5 degrees
above Monday`s levels with 70s expected. Relative humidity levels
will remain about the same as on Monday. Southwest winds will be
gusty at times esp in the Red River valley and eastern ND with
sustained in the 15-20 mph range and gusts to 30 mph. A bit less
wind in the trees.

Warmer tonight with a south to southwest wind...though an
inversion present will keep much higher winds aloft from
impacting the surface.

Wednesday morning will see a frontal system move through and
behind it winds west-northwest. Strong mixing will allow winds to
increase to 25 to 35 mph sustained values in northeastern North
Dakota and the northern Red River valley with slightly lower
speeds elsewhere. Wind gusts Wednesday midday and aftn could
reach near 50 mph in parts of the Devils Lake basin. Cooler
Wednesday but also drier airmass so relative humidity levels will
run a bit lower.

Warming up Thursday and Friday with southerly breezes.
