Fire Weather Planning Forecast For West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
345 AM CST Fri Jan 19 2018

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE PERMIAN
BASIN AND TRANS PECOS FOR 20 FOOT WINDS 20 MPH OR GREATER...MINIMUM
RH VALUES NEAR 15 PERCENT AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...

Fire danger is expected to increase in the near future beginning
today. RH`s will fall to near 15 percent across much of the region
this afternoon and again Saturday. Winds will be on the increase,
especially in the mountains where sustained speeds could reach over
30 mph. These factors along with very dry fuels will lead to
elevated fire danger. A strong storm system will arrive Sunday
bringing near critical to critical fire weather conditions. Winds
will increase to 20 to 30 mph across much of the area with rh`s
falling to near 15 percent. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for
the Permian Basin and Trans Pecos Sunday afternoon. Calmer
conditions are expected behind a cold front early next week.
