Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NE Wyoming and WRN South Dakota
National Weather Service Rapid City SD
316 AM MDT Tue Sep 19 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
EARLY WEDNESDAY EVENING FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY
FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 259...262...263...264...297...298 AND
299...

.DISCUSSION...Min RH`s around 20 percent are expected across
portions of SW SD and south central SD this afternoon ahead of a
cold front. Although critical fire weather conds are not expected,
extreme grassland fire danger is forecast. Winds will veer NW
with rising RH behind the cold front, which is expected sometime
mid to late afternoon. Dry gusty southwest flow will develop
Wednesday afternoon, potentially supporting critical fire weather
conds. Relative humidity looks to fall to or below 15 percent over
much of northeast WY and southwest SD with sustained winds of 20
to 25 mph (gusts over 35 mph possible). The breeziest winds look
to be across northeast WY and far southwest SD at this time, with
the potential for very low relative humidity and breezy conds in
and around the Black Hills also. Winds and RH tend to be higher
and lower respectively in this type of setup. Given current
forecast numbers and a decent potential for critical fire weather
conds, have issued a Fire Weather watch for NE WY and SW SD
Wednesday.

Much cooler and wetter conditions are expected toward this
weekend.
