...Very Strong Northwest Winds Tonight into Thursday morning...

.A strong cold front will pass east across the region tonight.
West to northwest winds will quickly increase behind the front and
remain very strong through at least midday Monday. The strongest
winds can be expected along the Blue Ridge especially Sunday night
into early Monday morning.

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON EST
THURSDAY...

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 8 PM this evening to noon EST
Thursday.

* Locations...Along and just west of the Blue Ridge mountains,
  including the Alleghany Highlands.

* Hazards...Strong to Damaging Wind gusts.

* Winds...West 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* Timing...Tonight through Thursday morning, with the strongest
  winds likely between midnight and sunrise.

* Impacts...Some property damage and power outages are possible.
  Trees or large tree limbs may be blown down. Travel will be
  very difficult for high profile vehicles, especially those
  traveling on southwest to northeast oriented roads across the
  higher elevations.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 MPH or gusts will range between 46 and 57 MPH. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use extra
caution until the winds subside.
