                ICE COVER CONDITIONS AS OF 2/21/2017

MISSISSIPPI RIVER

THERE WAS NO ICE REPORTED FROM LOCK AND DAM 1 THROUGH LD3.  LD4
THROUGH LD7 REPORTED 10 PERCENT COVERAGE WITH ICE 1 TO 5 INCHES
THICK. LD8 REPORTED 100 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE WITH ICE 4 INCHES
THICK. LD9 REPORTED 10 PERCENT COVERAGE WITH ICE 2 INCHES THICK.
NO ICE WAS REPORTED DOWNSTREAM OF LD9.

THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS TOOK ICE MEASUREMENTS ON LAKE PEPIN ON
FEBRUARY 15.  THE MEASUREMENTS SHOWED ICE 7 TO 17 INCHES THICK
FROM MILE 766 TO MILE 776.

SATELLITE IMAGERY ON FEBRUARY 19 AND 21 SHOWED SOME ICE FROM THE
TWIN CITIES DOWNSTREAM TO NEAR THE CONFLUENCE WITH THE WISCONSIN
RIVER, AND OPEN WATER DOWNSTREAM FROM THERE.

WATER TEMPERATURES WERE 32 TO 38 DEGREES DOWNSTREAM TO LD13, 38
TO 41 DEGREES FROM THERE TO LD22, AND 44 TO 48 DEGREES FROM LD24
TO LD27.

ILLINOIS RIVER SYSTEM (CHICAGO/ILLINOIS R)

NO ICE WAS REPORTED TODAY ON THE ILLINOIS OR ITS TRIBUTARIES.
SATELLITE IMAGERY FROM THE PAST FEW DAYS ALSO INDICATED
OPEN WATER CONDITIONS.

WATER TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM 38 TO 51 DEGREES.

ICE FACTORS AS OF 2/21/2017:

OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS:

AIR TEMPERATURES WILL BE MUCH ABOVE NORMAL THIS WEEK AND NEAR NORMAL
TO BELOW NORMAL NEXT WEEK. TEMPERATURES SHOULD BE MOSTLY BELOW
FREEZING IN THE NORTH FROM FRIDAY THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK.  LOW
TEMPERAURES IN THE SOUTH SHOULD BE BELOW FREEZING ON FRIDAY NIGHT
THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. OTHERWISE, TEMPERATURES WILL BE ABOVE FREEZING.

IN OUR REGION...LOW TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE 29 DEGREES AT
ST CLOUD, 34 DEGREES IN THE TWIN CITIES, 47 DEGREES IN THE QUAD
CITIES, 55 DEGREES AT PEORIA, AND 61 DEGREES AT ST LOUIS.

BASED ON THESE FACTORS...ICE WILL CONTINUE DECAYING AND BREAKING
UP THROUGH THE WEEKEND.  THERE COULD BE A LITTLE NEW ICE
FORMATION IN THE NORTH NEXT WEEK.

THE NEXT RIVER ICE STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED ON TUESDAY
FEBRUARY 28, 2017.
