AFTER A RECORD WARM MAY, THE WEATHER PATTERN CHANGED ABRUPTLY AS THE
CALENDAR CHANGED TO JUNE. THE FIRST TWO DAYS OF THE MONTH DID NOT
EVEN GET OUT OF THE 40S. COOL WEATHER CONTINUED FOR THE FIRST WEEK
OF JUNE BEFORE ALTERNATING PERIODS OF WARMER AND COOLER WEATHER WERE
OBSERVED THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF JULY. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE
YEAR WAS 89 DEGREES ON JULY 12. BY THE TIME AUGUST ARRIVED THE
WEATHER HAD SETTLED INTO A WARMER PATTERN WITH MOST OF THE MONTH
SEEING ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE SUMMER WAS 66.4 DEGREES WHICH WAS
1.0 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL AND THE COOLEST SUMMER SINCE 2009. THE
WARMEST SUMMER WAS 1999 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 69.2 DEGREES.
THE COOLEST WAS 65.5 DEGREES IN BOTH 2009 AND 2000.

THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE YEAR WAS 89 DEGREES ON JULY 12. THIS
MARKS THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR THAT 90 DEGREES WAS NOT OBSERVED. THE
ONLY OTHER YEAR TO ACHIEVE THIS FEAT WAS 1996, THE FIRST SUMMER OF
WEATHER OBSERVATIONS AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN GRAY.

A TOTAL OF 12.32 INCHES OF RAIN FELL WHICH WAS 0.13 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL. ALTHOUGH THIS WAS ABOVE NORMAL, IT WAS ALSO THE DRIEST
SUMMER SINCE 2010. THIS MARKED THE 12TH STRAIGHT SUMMER THAT AT
LEAST 11 INCHES OF RAIN WAS MEASURED. THE HEAVIEST RAIN FELL ON JUNE
1ST AND 2ND WHEN 2.04 INCHES WAS MEASURED (2.66 INCLUDING MAY 31ST).
THE WETTEST SUMMER WAS 2009 WITH 21.77 INCHES. THE DRIEST WAS 1999
WITH ONLY 6.92 INCHES.
