FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
230 PM PDT THU JUL 24 2014

...CONSIDERABLY WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER BY THE WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...ONSHORE FLOW CONTINUES THIS AFTERNOON BEHIND
THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH BROUGHT WETTING RAINS TO THE REGION THE
PAST COUPLE DAYS. HIGH PRESSURE IS BUILDING IN THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING FOR CLEARING SKIES BY MIDDAY FRIDAY. AFTER A CHILLY START
EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO REBOUND CLOSER TO NORMAL FRIDAY...THEN CLIMB
ABOVE NORMAL THIS WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RECENT WETTING
RAINS IS EXITING THE REGION...MOVING EAST OF THE ROCKIES. ONSHORE FLOW
CONTINUES BEHIND THIS SYSTEM AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN FROM THE PACIFIC.
HIGH PRESSURE WILL DOMINATE FRIDAY...WITH AN INCREASE IN SUNSHINE AND
WARMER TEMPERATURES THAT ARE CLOSER TO NORMAL. WINDS WILL BE MAINLY
TERRAIN DRIVEN DUE TO A WEAK GENERAL FLOW COMPONENT. A SUBSIDENCE
INVERSION IS POSSIBLE EITHER FRIDAY NIGHT DUE TO A RAPIDLY STRENGTHENING
UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDING INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FROM THE GREAT BASIN.
THIS WOULD YIELD VERY POOR HUMIDITY RECOVERY FOR EXPOSED CASCADE PEAKS AND
SATURDAY MORNING. AN INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE AIR MASS IS LIKELY THIS
WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK AS THE HOTTER WEATHER PROMOTES A THERMAL TROUGH
NEAR THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY AND CASCADES. ADDITIONALLY...A WEAK DISTURBANCE
MAY INCORPORATE SOME MONSOON MOISTURE FOR A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS SUNDAY
OR SUNDAY NIGHT. WEAGLE
