FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
246 PM PDT WED OCT 1 2014

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...BUILDING UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE
WILL BRING GENERALLY DRY AND MILD CONDITIONS THROUGH THE END
OF THE WEEK. A DEVELOPING SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH OVER N
CALIFORNIA AND S OREGON WILL BRING A BRIEF PERIOD OF OFFSHORE
WIND THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY MORNING. THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE
OF RAIN FOR THE S WASHINGTON AND N OREGON COAST OVER THE
WEEKEND...BUT OTHERWISE EXPECT DRY AND MILD WEATHER TO CONTINUE
INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK FOR MOST OF THE REGION.

.DISCUSSION...UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NE PACIFIC
IS BUILDING INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TODAY...WITH AN
ASSOCIATED SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH DEVELOPING OVER NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA AND SOUTHERN OREGON. THIS IS BRINGING DRYING
NORTHERLY WINDS TO SW WASHINGTON AND NW OREGON THIS AFTERNOON.
AS THE AXIS OF HIGH PRESSURE SHIFTS CLOSER...THE SURFACE
THERMAL TROUGH WILL MOVE ALONG THE COAST TOMORROW...RESULTING
IN A PERIOD OF LIGHT TO MODERATE OFFSHORE FLOW THROUGH FRIDAY
MORNING. EXPECT TEMPERATURES BACK TO SEASONAL NORMALS FOR
THURSDAY AND ABOVE NORMAL FOR FRIDAY. DO NOT EXPECT THE
OFFSHORE WINDS TO BE ALL THAT NOTABLE...BUT GUSTY CONDITIONS
ARE EXPECTED AT THE WESTERN END OF THE GORGE THURSDAY
NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING.

THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE REMAINS IN PLACE THROUGH THE WEEKEND
AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK...KEEPING RELATIVELY WARM
AND DRY CONDITIONS IN PLACE ACROSS MOST OF THE REGION.
THE LOW LEVEL FLOW SHOULD GENERALLY REMAIN NORTHERLY
DURING THIS TIME...WITH AN AFTERNOON ONSHORE COMPONENT TO
THE FLOW DEVELOPING AT THE COAST. THERE IS A CHANCE
THAT A FRONTAL SYSTEM FOCUSED ALONG THE BRITISH
COLUMBIA COAST MAY BRING SOME LIGHT RAIN TO THE S WA AND
N OR COAST AT SOME POINT OVER THE WEEKEND...BUT THE
PROBABILITY OF THIS HAPPENING IS LOW.

FORECAST...PYLE
