TENNESSEE WEATHER SUMMARY FOR THE WEEK ENDING JULY 24 2016

A TYPICAL SUMMER TIME WEATHER PATTERN SET UP OVER THE STATE OF
TENNESSEE THIS PAST WEEK AS AN UPPER RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE MOVED
OVER THE REGION. THE UPPER LEVEL HIGH PROVIDED HOT AND HUMID
CONDITIONS ACROSS THE STATE. THE COMBINATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURES IN
THE MID 90S TO AROUND 100 DEGREES AND DEWPOINTS IN THE MID TO AROUND
80 DEGREES PRODUCED HEAT INDEX VALUES BETWEEN 105 AND 115 DEGREES
OVER AT LEAST THE WESTERN HALF OF THE STATE. SOME RELIEF WAS
PROVIDED BY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOPED EACH
DAY. HOWEVER...THE ACTIVITY WAS VERY HIT AND MISS SO NOT EVERY
LOCATION RECEIVED RAINFALL.

TEMPERATURES ACROSS TENNESSEE LAST WEEK AVERAGED NEAR TO SLIGHTLY
ABOVE NORMAL. AVERAGE HIGHS RANGED FROM THE UPPER 80S TO THE UPPER
90S. AVERAGE LOWS RANGED FROM THE MID 60S TO THE UPPER 70S. THE
HOTTEST TEMPERATURE OF THE WEEK WAS 100 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED IN
CHATTANOOGA ON THURSDAY AND MEMPHIS ON FRIDAY. THE COOLEST
TEMPERATURE OF THE WEEK WAS 63 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED IN BRISTOL ON
THURSDAY MORNING.

PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS AVERAGED NEAR NORMAL ACROSS WEST TENNESSEE
WHILE THE REST OF THE STATE RECEIVED BELOW NORMAL RAINFALL. TOTAL
RAINFALL AMOUNTS FOR THE WEEK RANGED FROM ONLY A TRACE OF RAIN IN
NASHVILLE...KNOXVILLE...AND BRISTOL TO 2.37 INCHES IN MEMPHIS. THE
HIGHEST DAILY RAINFALL AMOUNT WAS 1.05 INCHES WHICH OCCURRED IN
MEMPHIS ON SUNDAY.

THE OUTLOOK FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST SHOWS ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES
EXPECTED FOR THE STATE OF TENNESSEE WITH EQUAL CHANCES OF RECEIVING
NEAR...ABOVE...OR BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION.
