.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 249 PM EDT Mon Apr 15 2024
Key Message:
- Quiet and hazard free weather should continue in the region
through Tuesday afternoon.
This Evening through Tuesday:
A strong upper level trough will move through the Central Rockies
and Plains tonight and Tuesday. Ahead of the trough, the axis of an
upper level ridge will move eastward from Texas coast, arriving in
Georgia on Tuesday. Subsidence from the ridge should keep dry weather
in place for Georgia through Tuesday afternoon. Increased ridging
(rising 500 mb heights) and subsidence would generally suggest warmer
temperatures. However, it looks like these factors will may be
mitigated by widespread high cloud cover (cirrus) Tuesday afternoon.
Thus our temperature forecast for Tuesday is actually 1 to 3 degrees
lower than today`s forecast. Apart from the increased cloud cover,
the only tangible change for Georgia surface dwellers over the next
36 hours will be a shift in wind direction. The surface high over the
Atlantic should move slightly eastward tonight and Tuesday, allowing
winds to take on a more southerly component. Winds speeds my
increase by 2 to 4 mph in Northwest Georgia Tuesday, but winds should
still fall broadly into the 6 to 12 mph range region wide. Humidity
values may dip into the 28 to 35 percent range Tuesday afternoon. The
odds of a Fire Danger Statement for portions of north Georgia
Tuesday afternoon are less than 10%.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 249 PM EDT Mon Apr 15 2024
By Wednesday morning, a low pressure system is expected to track
into the Great Lakes region, moving north of the ridging pattern
solidly in place over the southeast. With the parent low tracking
northward into the Great Lakes, the resulting energy is forecasted to
be limited which will overall limit the extent of the cold front
pushing into Georgia. Expecting north Georgia generally north of I-20
to experience showers and thunderstorms. Considering the energy is
well displaced to the north, not expecting any severe weather
associated with these increased rain chances. Moving into Thursday,
temps will continue to warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s for
much of the area into Friday with a stray 90 degree temp reading not
being out of the question for central GA.
Rain chances come to the area (north GA) again for the weekend with
another cold front approaching the area and resulting in a slight
cool down with highs Sunday currently in the 60s to 70s for the
area. There does remain model discrepancy over this system and its
timing, but overall looking at scattered amounts of rainfall with
under an inch expected. This will equate to scattered rain chances
every day Friday through Sunday but no area of widespread rainfall
thankfully.
