...SNOW MELT CONTRIBUTING TO RIVER LEVEL RISES ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
RED RIVER VALLEY...

The recent string of above average temperatures has resulted in
most of the snow cover disappearing over much of the Wild Rice
river basin in North Dakota, in addition to the Bois de Sioux and
western Buffalo basins. Due to this decrease in snow cover, some
locations across the southern Red River Valley are beginning to
depict a response in river levels in addition to some water
remaining frozen in the soil, field tiles, and ditches.

Note that there continues to be uncertainty regarding how much of
this water will flow into the river system over the weekend and
the beginning of next week as the warm temperatures continue. In
addition, a storm system is forecast to bring measurable rain to
the area Monday and Monday night. Any rain that falls will add to
the possible runoff starting to enter the river system. Based on
forecast warmth and precipitation with this upcoming event, the
potential exists for some locations across the southern Red River
basin to reach near, or even above, minor flood stage.

Forecast river levels below only account for snowmelt at this time.
Information will likely change later in the weekend as more data
becomes available and confidence increases.
