...JULY CLIMATE REPORTS...

DESPITE THE OVERALL COLD PATTERN TO THE MONTH OF JULY IT WAS NOT A
TOP TEN COLDEST AT THE UND/NWS CLIMATE STATION. THE MEAN TEMPERATURE
DEPARTURE AT THE UND/NWS CLIMATE STATION WAS 2.1 DEGREES BELOW THE
LONG TERM AVERAGE. THIS MAKES IT THE 28TH COLDEST ON RECORD BASED ON
PRELIMINARY DATA. THE WARMEST HIGH WAS 94 DEGREES ON THE 20TH WHILE
THE COLDEST LOW OF 47 OCCURRED ON THE 2ND.

THE 3.44 INCHES OF TOTAL RAINFALL WAS ONLY 0.27 INCHES ABOVE THE
LONG TERM AVERAGE FOUND IN ANY GIVEN JULY. OF THAT MONTHLY TOTAL
2.71 INCHES FELL ON THE EVENING OF JULY 21ST WHEN SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS HIT THE GRAND CITIES. THAT 2.71 INCHES BROKE THE OLD
RECORD OF 2.03 SET IN 1966.

AT FARGO...THE TEMPERATURE DEPARTURE WAS ONLY 1.6 DEGREES BELOW
THE LONG TERM AVERAGE. THIS WAS NOT A TOP 10 OR TOP 20 COLDEST
JULY...IT WAS WELL WITHIN THE EXPECTED CLIMATOLOGICAL VARIANCE
FOUND IN ANY GIVEN JULY. THE WARMEST HIGH WAS 93 DEGREES ON THE
20TH AND 21ST WITH THE COLDEST LOW OF 49 ON THE 3RD AND 15TH.

THE 1.64 INCHES OF TOTAL RAINFALL WAS WELL BELOW THE LONG TERM
AVERAGE OF 2.79 BY 1.15 INCHES. THIS PUTS JULY 2014 IN 38TH PLACE
BASED ON PRELIMINARY DATA. DRY...BUT NOT UNUSUALLY OR
EXCEPTIONALLY DRY.

THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS PROVISIONAL...IS BASED ON EDITED DATA AND
WILL LIKELY BE CHANGED SLIGHTLY AFTER FURTHER REVIEW BY THE NATIONAL
CLIMATE DATA CENTER. OFFICIAL RECORDS AND SUMMARIES WILL BE
AVAILABLE LATER THIS FALL.
