GALESBURG IN SOUTHEASTERN STEELE COUNTY...

SURVEY SUMMARY: RESULTS FROM THE NWS DAMAGE ASSESSMENT INDICATED AN
EF1 TORNADO OCCURRED SATURDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 5 MILES WEST OF
GALESBURG ND IN OPEN COUNTRY. THERE WAS TREE DAMAGE TO A SHELTERBELT
WITH SOME TREES SNAPPED AS WELL AS A SCOURED PATH THROUGH BEAN AND CORN
FIELDS. THERE WAS A STRONG RADAR SIGNATURE AND A WEAK TORNADO DEBRIS
SIGNATURE (TDS) THAT LIKELY RESULTED FROM CROPS...LEAVES AND DUST BEING
LIFTED INTO THE TORNADO. THE TORNADO SPARED TWO NEARBY FARMSTEADS IN THE
AREA SIMILAR TO THE HOPE AND HATTON TORNADOS.

EF SCALE: THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE CLASSIFIES
TORNADOES INTO THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES.

EF0...WEAK......65 TO 85 MPH
EF1...WEAK......86 TO 110 MPH
EF2...STRONG....111 TO 135 MPH
EF3...STRONG....136 TO 165 MPH
EF4...VIOLENT...166 TO 200 MPH
EF5...VIOLENT...>200 MPH
