RECORD EVENT REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA/GRAND FORKS

...RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH
ESTABLISHED THROUGHOUT THE VALLEY...

A NUMBER OF RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES WERE SET TODAY AT OUR
GRAND FORKS AND FARGO ND OBSERVING SITES.

THE HIGH TEMPERATURE AT GRAND FORKS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BYRON
DORGAN TERMINAL) ONLY REACHED 11 DEGREES BELOW ZERO THIS AFTERNOON.
THIS IS A RECORD LOW MAXIMUM FOR MARCH 1 ECLIPSING THE PREVIOUS
RECORD OF MINUS 3 SET IN 1972.  THIS FIGURE IS ALSO A RECORD LOW
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF MARCH AT THE
AIRPORT...THE PREVIOUS BEING THE MINUS 6 REGISTERED THERE ON MARCH
23 1974.

HERE AT THE UND NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE JUST WEST
OF I-29 THE HIGH WAS 9 BELOW.  THIS SHATTERED THE FORMER RECORD LOW
MAXIMUM FOR MARCH 1...4 BELOW SET ALL THE WAY BACK IN 1916.  IT ALSO
ESTABLISHED THE LOWEST MAXIMUM FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH DURING A
NEARLY 125 YEAR PERIOD OF RECORD...WHICH WAS MINUS 8 ON MARCH 6 1955.

IN FARGO THE HIGH TODAY WAS MINUS 8.  THE PREVIOUS RECORD LOW
MAXIMUM FOR MARCH 1 WAS THE 2 DEGREES BELOW ZERO RECORDED IN 1943.
WITH RESPECT TO THE ENTIRE MONTH OF MARCH...THIS WAS ALSO A RECORD
LOW MAXIMUM...THE PREVIOUS FIGURE OF 7 DEGREES BELOW ZERO STOOD
SINCE MARCH 10 1948.

NOTE...THE HIGH TEMPERATURES AT GFK AND FARGO ARE PRELIMINARY AND
ARE SUBJECT TO SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT WHEN THE NUMBERS BECOME OFFICIAL
AFTER MIDNIGHT.  ANY CHANGES SHOULD NOT AFFECT THESE NEW RECORDS
HOWEVER.
