Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
244 PM CDT Fri Apr 26 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM CDT /NOON MDT/ TO 9 PM
CDT /8 PM MDT/ SATURDAY FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS,
20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST
NEW MEXICO, THE WESTERN HIGH TERRAIN, AND INTO THE BIG BEND...

.DISCUSSION...

Winds today are lighter than Thursday, but 20ft winds around 15-
20kts and humidity below 15 percent today has still warranted a Fire
Danger Statement despite above normal fuel moisture. Overnight
recovery will be poor to fair out west and good out east before
humidity falls to critical levels again on Saturday. 20ft winds will
be significantly stronger Saturday as well, with RFTIs of 6-7 in the
mountains, Big Bend, and SE New Mexico, so a Red Flag Warning has
been issued for these areas. Beyond Saturday, lighter winds and a
slow uptick in moisture should limit fire concerns. Rain and storms
possibly return areawide Wednesday.

Service Office.
