THE WARM WEATHER, WHICH BEGAN IN MID JULY, CONTINUED THROUGH MUCH OF
AUGUST. THE HEAT BUILT THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH, PEAKING
IN MID AUGUST WHEN THE TEMPERATURE TOPPED 95 DEGREES ON TWO
CONSECUTIVE DAYS ON AUGUST 11 AND 12. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 96
DEGREES ON AUGUST 12 TIED FOR THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED IN
THE MONTH OF AUGUST IN THE SHORT 21-YEAR HISTORY OF OBSERVATIONS AT
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN GRAY. THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY
CONTRIBUTED TO A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WHICH PRODUCED 48 MPH WIND
GUSTS AND MORE THAN 1.5 INCHES OF RAINFALL. ALTHOUGH THE EXTREME
HEAT ABATED, TEMPERATURES REMAINED ABOVE NORMAL FOR MUCH OF THE REST
OF THE MONTH. MORE WELCOME RAIN ARRIVED ON AUGUST 21 AND 22 WHEN
MORE THAN 1 INCH WAS MEASURED.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 72.1 DEGREES WHICH WAS 3.5 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. THE WARMEST AUGUST WAS 2001 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS
72.2 DEGREES. THE COOLEST WAS 2008 AT ONLY 66.0 DEGREES. THE HIGH
TEMPERATURE OF 96 DEGREES ON AUGUST 12 TIED FOR THE 3RD HOTTEST
TEMPERATURE YET RECORDED AT NWS GRAY AND THE HOTTEST IN THE MONTH OF
AUGUST. THE FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURES RECORDED
AT NWS GRAY.

RAIN. THE WETTEST WAS 2011 WITH 8.19 INCHES.
