AFTER THE COLD WINTER, APRIL FINALLY REVERSED THE TREND OF VERY COLD
WEATHER. IT WAS THE FIRST MONTH TO FINISH ABOVE NORMAL SINCE
DECEMBER 2014. THE COOL WEATHER CONTINUED FOR THE FIRST WEEK AND A
HALF OF APRIL WITH THE 7 INCHES OF WINTER SNOW PACK STILL ON THE
GROUND STILL SLOWLY MELTING. WINTER`S LAST GASP WAS ON APRIL 8 AND 9
WHEN 2.9 INCHES OF SNOW FELL IN PORTLAND. THIS WAS THE MOST SNOW
SINCE MID FEBRUARY. SPRING FINALLY ARRIVED ON APRIL 11. ONLY TWO
DAYS IN 2015 HAD SURPASSED 50 DEGREES UP UNTIL THAT POINT. BUT ON
APRIL 11 THE TEMPERATURE ROSE TO 54 DEGREES AND DIDN`T LOOK BACK.
FIVE OF THE NEXT 6 DAYS SAW TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S INCLUDING THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH ON APRIL 14 AT 70 DEGREES. THE LAST
OF THE WINTER SNOW PACK FINALLY MELTED BY APRIL 13. A STORM SYSTEM
BROUGHT HEAVY RAIN ON APRIL 20 AND 21, THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT RAIN
STORM SINCE EARLY DECEMBER. THE WARM WEATHER PATTERN SHIFTED TO A
COOLER ONE TOWARD THE END OF THE MONTH WITH TEMPERATURES FLUCTUATING
A FEW DEGREES ON EITHER SIDE OF NORMAL FOR THE FINAL WEEK OF APRIL.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 44.7 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.7 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. THIS WAS THE FIRST ABOVE NORMAL MONTH IN PORTLAND SINCE
DECEMBER AND THE WARMEST APRIL SINCE 2012. THE WARMEST APRIL ON
RECORD WAS 2010 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 48.8 DEGREES. THE
COLDEST WAS 1943 AT 38.4 DEGREES.

THERE WERE 10 DAYS THIS MONTH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE ROSE TO 60
DEGREES OR WARMER. NORMALLY THERE ARE ABOUT 7 DAYS EACH APRIL THAT
REACH 60 DEGREES. THE 10 DAYS THIS MONTH TIED FOR THE 6TH MOST ON
RECORD. THE FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE MOST DAYS WITH A HIGH
TEMPERATURE OF 60 DEGREES OR MORE IN APRIL.

A TOTAL OF 5.03 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.71 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THIS WAS THE WETTEST MONTH IN PORTLAND SINCE DECEMBER
AND THE WETTEST APRIL SINCE 2011. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION FELL ON
APRIL 20 AND 21 WHEN 3.69 INCHES OF RAIN FELL MOSTLY DURING THE
OVERNIGHT PERIOD. THE WETTEST APRIL ON RECORD WAS 1973 WHEN 9.90
INCHES WAS RECORDED. THE DRIEST WAS 1999 WITH ONLY 0.28 INCHES.

2.9 INCHES OF SNOW FELL WHICH WAS ONLY 0.1 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. ALL
OF THE MEASURABLE SNOW FELL ON APRIL 8 AND 9. THIS WAS THE SNOWIEST
APRIL SINCE 2011. THE SNOWIEST APRIL ON RECORD WAS 1906 WHEN 20.5
INCHES FELL. THERE HAVE BEEN 10 APRILS IN THE 134 YEARS OF SNOW
RECORDS AT PORTLAND WHICH DID NOT SEE ANY SNOW DURING THE MONTH. THE
MOST RECENT WAS IN 2009.
