Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
259 PM PDT Tue May 23 2017

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS INTERIOR AREAS THROUGH
WEDNESDAY...

...GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS INTERIOR SECTIONS WEDNESDAY THROUGH
FRIDAY...

.DISCUSSION...
Slightly stronger onshore winds and drier conditions than expected
will continue to bring brief critical fire weather conditions across
some wind prone interior areas through early this evening. Elevated
fire weather conditions are expected to continue across the far
interior and higher elevations Wednesday as onshore winds increase 5
to 10 mph, as humidities increase 5 to 10 percent. There is a 10
percent chance of a thunderstorm Wednesday over the Ventura and Santa
Barbara County Mountains.

Strong onshore flow will support a rapidly deepening marine layer
from around 1500 feet Wednesday to 3500 feet by late Thursday. This
onshore push will bring gusty, likely advisory level winds to
portions of the interior. The deepening marine layer will support
minimum humidities above 20 percent Thursday except for above 5000
feet and possibly the eastern Antelope Valley. Continued strong
onshore flow with weak low pressure aloft will support a deep marine
layer and strong onshore winds across the interior through Friday.
Patchy drizzle is possible across lower coastal slopes to the coast
Thursday morning and more likely Friday morning. A warming and
drying trend is expected this weekend into early next week as high
pressure builds in aloft.
