FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
230 PM PDT SUN SEP 14 2014

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM PDT TUESDAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...HOT...DRY AND SOMEWHAT UNSTABLE CONDITIONS
WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL
BRING A RETURN TO ONSHORE FLOW AND RESULT IN A THREAT OF
THUNDERSTORMS MONDAY EVENING INTO TUESDAY MORNING. A STRONGER TROUGH
MAY BRING SOME PRECIPITATION WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY.

.DISCUSSION...HOT...DRY AND SOMEWHAT UNSTABLE CONDITIONS WILL
PERSIST THROUGH MONDAY. THE SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH IS EXPECTED TO BE
NEAR THE COAST RANGE OR SLIGHTLY WEST TONIGHT...THEN SLOWLY DRIFT A
LITTLE MORE EAST MONDAY. EAST WIND WILL REMAIN RATHER LOCALIZED
TONIGHT AND MONDAY...GENERALLY CONFINED TO THE WEST END OF THE
COLUMBIA GORGE AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF ZONE 660. THE NEXT CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONCERN WILL BE THE THREAT OF LIGHTNING MONDAY EVENING.
MODELS SHOW AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH APPROACHING SOUTHWEST OREGON LATE
MONDAY. THIS FEATURE WILL INDUCE A SWITCH TO ONSHORE LOW-LEVEL
FLOW...BUT ALSO CREATE INCREASED INSTABILITY ALOFT. THE COMBINATION
OF MID-LEVEL HAINES 6 AND THE THREAT OF DRY LIGHTNING HAS PROMPTED
THE EXTENSION OF THE RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. A
STRONGER SYSTEM IMPACTS THE AREA LATE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.
ALTHOUGH SOME PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED... WETTING RAIN
ARE UNLIKELY. LONGER RANGE CHARTS SHOW WARMER AND DRIER CONDITIONS
RETURNING NEXT WEEKEND.

$$

***THUNDERSTORMS IMPLY STRONG GUSTY WINDS***
***WINDS ARE 20 FOOT 10 MINUTE AVERAGES***
***CWR-CHANCE OF WETTING RAIN 0.25 OR GREATER***
