FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
248 PM PDT MON MAY 25 2015

...WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER EXPECTED LATER THIS WEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...DEEP ONSHORE FLOW CONTINUES ACROSS THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST WITH HIGH PRESSURE OFFSHORE AND LOW PRESSURE
OVER EASTERN WASHINGTON. THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MAY TRIGGER A
STRAY THUNDERSTORM NEAR MOUNT ADAMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY
AFTERNOON. OTHERWISE EXPECT BRISK ONSHORE WINDS AND TEMPERATURES A
FEW DEGREES BELOW NORMAL THROUGH TUESDAY...FOLLOWED BY A TREND
TOWARD WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...A DEEP MARINE LAYER IS RESULTING IN A SLOW BURN OFF
OF LOW CLOUDS UP TO THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS. THE MARINE LAYER IS
SOMEWHAT SHALLOWER IN THE WILLAMETTE NATIONAL FOREST AREA...AND
AREAS ABOVE 3000 TO 3500 FEET ARE GENERALLY FREE OF THE MARINE
INFLUENCE...THUS WARMER AND DRIER THAN SURROUNDING AREAS. PRESSURE
GRADIENTS ARE STILL DECIDEDLY ONSHORE...DUE TO HIGH PRESSURE
OFFSHORE AND LOW PRESSURE DIGGING INTO EASTERN WASHINGTON FROM
BRITISH COLUMBIA. SOME CUMULUS BUILDUPS ARE OCCURRING ALONG THE
EAST SLOPES OF THE WASHINGTON CASCADES...AND MAY STILL CLIP MOUNT
ADAMS DISTRICT WITH A STRAY THUNDERSTORM THIS AFTERNOON. TUESDAY
SHOULD BE SIMILAR TO TODAY AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DRIFTS INTO
THE COLUMBIA BASIN. EXPECT ANOTHER DAY WITH A DEEP MARINE LAYER
AND GUSTY ONSHORE FLOW THROUGH THE COLUMBIA GORGE AND ACROSS THE
CASCADES. MORNING LOW CLOUDS WILL LIKELY BE STUBBORN AGAIN...BUT
MAY BURN OFF SLIGHTLY QUICKER IN OUR NORTHERN ZONES DUE TO SOME
DRIER NORTHERLY FLOW ALOFT. THERE SHOULD BE ANOTHER ROUND OF
CUMULUS BUILDUPS NORTH OF MOUNT HOOD...WITH A STRAY THUNDERSTORM
AGAIN POSSIBLE FOR MOUNT ADAMS DISTRICT. THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
WILL KICK EASTWARD INTO THE ROCKIES MIDWEEK...ALLOWING A WEAK
RIDGE TO BUILD INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THIS SHOULD ALLOW FOR A
WARMING AND DRYING TREND AS THE WEEK PROGRESSES...WITH ABOVE
NORMAL TEMPERATURES EXPECTED BY THURSDAY. WEAGLE
