OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
142 PM CDT Tue May 7 2024

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

Breezy east to southeast winds will prevail today as a 29.1 inch
low lingers over the northern Great Plains. Periods of showers
and embedded thunderstorms will be possible through this evening.
A few of these storms could be strong with gusty winds and hail,
particularly this afternoon and early this evening. Best chances
for strong to severe storms will be across the southern third of
Lake Michigan where a Tornado Watch is in effect until 8 PM CDT.
Fog has begun to develop across the central third of Lake Michigan
this afternoon as warmer air surges northward. Thus a Dense Fog
Advisory is in effect for the central third of the Lake until 10
PM CDT. Winds will turn out of the northeast over the lake on
Wednesday afternoon and evening as a second area of 29.5 inch low
pressure passes south and southeast of the open waters. Additional
periods of showers and thunderstorms are possible from Wednesday
evening through Thursday, with conditions drying out Thursday
night. Northerly winds will persist through Friday morning, prior
to turning out of the southwest on Friday afternoon as a 29.7 inch
low pressure moves across Ontario. Gales are not anticipated
through the duration of the period.
