HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION
NWS ALASKA PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER ANCHORAGE AK
300 PM AKDT SAT SEP 23 2017

...FLOOD POTENTIAL...

THE SNOW GLACIER DAMMED LAKE IS RELEASING. WATER LEVELS ON THE SNOW
RIVER ARE STEADILY RISING AND ARE REFLECTIVE OF PREVIOUS OUTBURST
EVENTS. EXPECT A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN WATER LEVELS ON KENAI LAKE
THROUGH THE WEEKEND AS WELL AS FLOOD THE ROAD TO PRIMROSE CAMPGROUND
AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS. PLEASE REFER TO THE FLOOD WARNING THAT
HAS BEEN BEEN ISSUED FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.

...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION....

THE WEATHER MAP SHOWS AN ELONGATED UPPER LEVEL LOW EXTENDING FORM
THE NORTHWEST COAST OF ALASKA DOWN THROUGH THE SOUTHWEST AND FINALLY
ROUNDING THE BASE OVER THE ALASKA PENINSULA. THE RIDGE AXIS HAS NOW
BEEN PUSHED THROUGH THE SOUTHERN END OF THE SOUTHEAST AS THE LOW
OVER THE SOUTHWEST BEGINS TO WRAP UP AND ROTATE A STRONGER SHORTWAVE
UP THROUGH SOUTHCENTRAL AK. RAINFALL INTENSITIES SHOULD BE PICKING
UP WITH THIS MOVEMENT OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS ESPECIALLY ALONG THE
EASTERN KENAI PENINSULA... WESTERN PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND AND SOUTHERN
ALASKA RANGE. THIS HAS ALREADY BEGUN AS INDICATED BY THE RADAR
IMAGERY. THE SOUTHEAST AND GULF COAST HAS BEEN QUIET AS OF LATE BUT
THAT WILL CHANGE WITH ONSHORE FLOW TODAY AND THEN AN ASSOCIATED
FRONT THAT PUSHES THRU THIS EVENING.

THE HIGHEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS BY SUNDAY MORNING WILL RANGE BETWEEN 2
AND 4 INCHES FROM THE UPPER ALASKA PENINSULA INTO THE SOUTHERN
ALASKA RANGE WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE EASTERN KENAI PENINSULA AND
WESTERN PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND. SOUTHERN SOUTHEAST GETS AROUND 2
INCHES.

...PRECIPITATION...

SELECTED 24 HOUR PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS ENDING AT 4 AM AKDT TODAY:
