ALABAMA FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM CDT WEDNESDAY...

.VERY HOT AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH A HUMID AIRMASS TO
BRING DANGEROUS HEAT INDICES TO NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA
TODAY AND WEDNESDAY. A FEW LOCATIONS MAY EXPERIENCE TEMPORARY COOLING
RELIEF FROM SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...BUT PREVAILING AFTERNOON HEAT
INDEX VALUES WILL BE IN EXCESS OF 105 DEGREES FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE
ADVISORY AREA. LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT IS EXPECTED TONIGHT...WITH
LOWS ONLY DROPPING INTO THE MID 70S.

WEDNESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HUNTSVILLE HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM CDT
WEDNESDAY.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH 7 PM
  WEDNESDAY FOR ALL OF NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA.

* TEMPERATURE...AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 94 AND 98 DEGREES WITH
  HEAT INDICES BETWEEN 105 AND 110 DEGREES. LOWS TONIGHT WILL BE IN
  THE 74 TO 76 DEGREE RANGE.

* IMPACTS...ELEVATED THREAT FOR HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES, INCLUDING
  HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE
AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES!

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED
OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE
MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN
EMERGENCY...CALL 911.
