Subject: Change in Upper Air Software at WFO Blacksburg

Effective: Aug 2016

Note: The following changes have no impact on NOAA weather wire
service subscribers.

The last upper air sounding at Weather Forecast Office
Blacksburg, VA operating at a frequency of 1680 MHz via the
Radiosonde Replacement System /RRS/ was released at 12Z on Tuesday
Aug 16 2016. All soundings thereafter will be conducted utilizing
the Transitional Radiosonde Observing System /TROS/, which
operates at a frequency of 403 MHz.

The header for Blacksburg Virginia, KRNK /station ID 72318/ has
not changed with the introduction of the TROS. The official header
of the Blacksburg office will continue to be used for transmission
of official products.
