RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT

.DISCUSSION...Showers and thunderstorms over northwest South
Dakota will end this morning, but additional storms are expected
this afternoon and tonight. Temperatures today will be a little
cooler with highs ranging from the mid 80s across northwest South
Dakota to around 100 degrees in south central South Dakota.
Minimum relative humidity values will vary from 20 to 35 percent.
Most areas will see gusty northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph, with
the exception of south central South Dakota where southerly winds
will become northeast by this evening.

...Very high Fire Danger...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the very high category
this afternoon. Very poor weather conditions or a very low
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that dangerous burning conditions exist.
Fires will spread rapidly and show erratic behavior. Outdoor
burning is not recommended.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate category to high category.

...High Fire Danger...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is a moderate to high potential for a fire
occurrence. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the moderate category to high category.

this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
