URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME
318 AM EST MON JAN 23 2017

...WINTER STORM LIKELY TO AFFECT THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT INTO
TUESDAY...

.LOW PRESSURE CURRENTLY OVER THE SOUTHEAST U.S. WILL TRACK
NORTHEAST TOWARD NEW ENGLAND TODAY INTO TUESDAY. A VARIETY OF
DIFFERENT PRECIPITATION TYPES ARE POSSIBLE AS THE STORM NEARS THE
AREA. COLD AIR WILL BE IN PLACE IN THE LOWER LEVELS... BUT WARM
AIR SURGING NORTHWARD AHEAD OF THE LOW MAY BE ENOUGH TO CHANGE
PRECIPITATION FROM SNOW TO SLEET OR EVEN FREEZING RAIN. IN
ADDITION... A COASTAL FRONT IS LIKELY TO FORM WHICH COULD BRING
ENOUGH LOW LEVEL WARM AIR TO CHANGE PRECIPITATION TO RAIN NEAR THE
COAST. THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF VARIABLES THAT NEED WATCHING WHICH
LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT UNCERTAINTY IN THE FORECAST FOR PRECIPITATION
TYPE. AT THIS TIME... THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR 6 INCHES OR MORE OF
SNOW AND SLEET WITHIN AND NEAR THE WATCH AREA... ALONG WITH LIGHT
ICING.
