...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM RAINFALL SET AT SIOUX FALLS SOUTH DAKOTA...

A RECORD RAINFALL OF 1.23 INCH FELL THIS CHRISTMAS DAY 2016. THE
PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 1.13 INCH SET IN 1945. IT IS ALSO IMPRESSIVE
THAT THIS YEAR THE PRECIPITATION WAS COMPLETELY COMPOSED OF RAIN
FROM SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. OTHER PREVIOUS RECORDS FOR DECEMBER
25TH INCLUDE AT LEAST SOME SNOWFALL LIQUID CONTENT.

ADDITIONALLY...THIS IS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THUNDER IN THE RECORD
LISTINGS FOR CHRISTMAS IN SIOUX FALLS. WEATHER RECORDS FOR SIOUX
FALLS DATE ALL THE WAY BACK TO 1893.
