Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
529 AM CDT Sat Aug 12 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Southeasterly winds will increase today ahead of a disturbance
that will impact the region this afternoon into the overnight.
The greatest amount for rain appears to be concentrated north of
I-90. More unsettled weather is possible on Sunday into early next
week, but at this time the confidence on timing and location is
much less than the system impacting the region tonight.

Temperatures through the weekend will remain below normal, but
will start to warm towards normal levels by mid-week.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the high category
this afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low
moisture content of grasses and other dry organic material
on the ground indicate that there is a moderate to high
potential for a fire occurrence. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds
are usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
