RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD
541 AM CDT FRI APR 11 2014

.DISCUSSION...
VERY LOW AFTERNOON HUMIDITY FROM 15 TO 22 PERCENT WILL COMBINE
WITH SOMEWHAT WEAKER WINDS TODAY TO PRODUCE A HIGH FIRE DANGER
ACROSS THE AREA. IF WINDS END UP JUST A LITTLE STRONGER...THE
RANGELAND FIRE DANGER COULD INCREASE TO VERY HIGH...BUT SHOULD
REMAIN WELL SHORT OF WINDS REQUIRED FOR CRITICAL FIRE BEHAVIOR.

THE VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER WILL RETURN OVER MUCH OF THE AREA NEAR
AND WEST OF INTERSTATE 29 ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. HUMIDITY WILL
ONCE AGAIN BE LOW... IN THE 22 TO 29 PERCENT RANGE...BUT WINDS
WILL BE A LITTLE STRONGER THAN ON FRIDAY.

DEBRIS BURNING IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF WILDFIRES...SO PLEASE BE
CAREFUL WITH ANY USE OF FIRE.

THE GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER INDEX WILL REACH THE HIGH CATEGORY
THIS AFTERNOON. UNFAVORABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS OR A LOW
MOISTURE CONTENT OF GRASSES...AND OTHER DRY ORGANIC MATERIAL
ON THE GROUND...INDICATE THAT THERE IS A MODERATE TO HIGH
POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE OCCURRENCE. OUTDOOR BURNING SHOULD BE
RESTRICTED TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING HOURS WHEN WIND SPEEDS
USUALLY LOWER AND THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY IS HIGHER.

THE OUTLOOK FOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON...THE GRASSLAND FIRE DANGER
