.DISCUSSION...
STRONG SOUTH WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED TODAY...WITH
OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 45 MPH...ESPECIALLY IN THE LATE MORNING THROUGH
MID AFTERNOON. THESE STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER
THROUGHOUT THE REGION...DESPITE AFTERNOON HUMIDITY LEVELS RANGING
FROM THE 30 TO 35 PERCENT IN SOUTH CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA...TO HIGHER
THAN 50 PERCENT IN PARTS OF SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST IOWA.

CONCERNS OVER THE POTENTIAL FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE AREA ARE INCREASING FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
STRONG MIXING WITHIN A DRYING AIR MASS IS EXPECTED TO YIELD GUSTY
WESTERLY FLOW IN THE 25 TO 35 MPH RANGE...ALONG WITH LOW HUMIDITY
LEVELS OF 15 TO 20 PERCENT FROM SOUTH CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA...THROUGH
THE JAMES RIVER VALLEY...AND INTO EXTREME NORTHEAST NEBRASKA. EXTREME
FIRE DANGER IS LIKELY IN THESE AREAS THURSDAY AFTERNOON...WITH VERY
HIGH FIRE DANGER ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA...
NORTHWEST IOWA AND SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA.

DEBRIS BURNING IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF WILDFIRES...SO PLEASE BE
CAREFUL WITH ANY USE OF FIRE. CONSIDER POSTPONING BURNING DUE TO THE
VERY HIGH OR EXTREME FIRE DANGER.

BURNING CONDITIONS EXIST. FIRES WILL SPREAD RAPIDLY AND
SHOW ERRATIC BEHAVIOR. OUTDOOR BURNING IS NOT RECOMMENDED.
