Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
454 AM CDT Mon Apr 29 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Aside from any remaining light rain showers north of I-90 early this
morning, today will be dry with clouds clearing out throughout the
day from west to east. The wind will remain fairly consistent out of
the west-northwest sustained in the mid to upper teens with gusts in
the mid to upper 20s. With minimum relative humidity values in the
50s and 60s and high soil moisture content across the region, fire
danger today will remain low.

Fire danger will remain low Tuesday and onwards as we`ll see
additional rain chances on most days. For areas east of the James
River Valley, rainfall amounts for Tuesday look to be in the half
inch to inch range, though isolated amounts closer to 1.5" is
possible for any location that sees a couple storms. Areas along and
west of the James will see amounts from a couple hundredths to a
quarter inch.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
