...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1887, a prairie fire developed near Nicodemus in Graham County,
Kansas. Pushed by west winds around 40 mph, the fire caused nine
deaths and a large amount of property damage. The fire eventually
reached Rooks and Phillips counties.

In 1922, a blizzard occurred in Cheyenne County, Kansas. Snow drifts
of four to five feet developed in Saint Francis.

In 1935, a dust storm moved across Greeley County during the
morning. The storm was so intense that it halted a murder trial being
held in Tribune.

In 1995, snow and strong winds closed roads and schools. Snowfall
amounts were nine inches 2 miles south of Goodland, six inches in
Atwood, seven inches 9 miles southeast of Bird City, and six
inches in Brewster, McDonald and Saint Francis.
