CLOUDS WERE CLEARING FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE EASTERN
HALF OF SOUTH DAKOTA...AS A RIDGE OF CHILLY HIGH PRESSURE WAS
WORKING TOWARD THE INTERSTATE 29 CORRIDOR OVERNIGHT. BEHIND THE
HIGH...SOUTHEAST WINDS AND INCREASING CLOUDINESS PREVENTED THE
WESTERN HALF OF THE STATE FROM GETTING AS COLD. THROUGH THE MORNING
HOURS...TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN WARMING INTO THE 20S AND 30S...UNDER
A PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY SKY. THE 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW IN THE
EASTERN PARTS OF SOUTH DAKOTA...MAINLY IN THE U.S. HIGHWAY 14
CORRIDOR AND NORTHEAST...WAS BEGINNING TO MELT IN THE MID APRIL
SUNSHINE. IT IS LIKELY TO BE GONE AT MOST LOCATIONS BY THIS
EVENING...AS WARMER WEATHER IS ON THE WAY. THE FORECAST HAS 60S TO
LOW 70S ACROSS THE STATE BY SATURDAY.

LOW TEMPERATURES ACROSS SOUTH DAKOTA THIS MORNING VARIED FROM THE
TEENS AND LOW 20S IN MOST OF THE EASTERN HALF OF THE STATE...TO THE
MID AND UPPER 20S IN MOST OF THE WESTERN HALF. ONE OF THE COLDEST
TOWNS WAS WATERTOWN...FALLING ALL THE WAY TO 12 DEGREES. HURON WAS
ALMOST AS CHILLY...WITH 13. ONE OF THE MILDEST SPOTS WAS PINE
RIDGE...HOLDING AT 29 DEGREES. THE RAPID CITY AIRPORT...PINNACLE
RANGER STATION...PHILIP...AND BUFFALO WERE ALL CLOSE BEHIND...ALL
WITH 28.

AT 11 AM CDT / 10 AM MDT...THE WESTERN HALF OF SOUTH DAKOTA WAS
PARTLY SUNNY TO CLOUDY...AND THE EASTERN HALF WAS MOSTLY SUNNY TO
SUNNY. TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE 30S. EXTREMES ON THE HOUR RANGED
FROM 30 DEGREES AT CUSTER...AND 31 AT BUFFALO...WATERTOWN...AND
SIOUX FALLS...UP TO 39 AT BOTH SPEARFISH AND ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE
BASE. THE WESTERN HALF OF THE STATE HAD SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH BREEZES
AT 8 TO 21 MPH...WITH GUSTS UP TO 26 MPH AT BOTH FAITH AND ELLSWORTH
AIR FORCE BASE. MEANWHILE...THE EASTERN HALF OF SOUTH DAKOTA HAD
LIGHT WINDS BETWEEN NORTH AND EAST AT 3 TO 10 MPH.
