IT WAS A PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY AND HOT DAY ACROSS SOUTH DAKOTA. THE
EASTERN HALF OF THE STATE WAS ALSO RATHER HUMID...WHICH PUSHED HEAT
INDEX VALUES OVER 100. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS FROM NORTH DAKOTA
MOVED INTO THE NORTHEAST PART OF SOUTH DAKOTA BY EARLY EVENING.
THERE WERE ALSO A FEW ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE BLACK HILLS.
OTHERWISE...THE RUSHMORE STATE REMAINED DRY AT MOST LOCATIONS.

HIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS SOUTH DAKOTA THIS AFTERNOON WERE MAINLY IN
THE 90S. SOME OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL PARTS OF THE STATE
CLIMBED ABOVE 100 DEGREES. ONE OF THE HOTTEST TOWNS WAS ACADEMY...
REACHING 111. WINNER WAS CLOSE BEHIND...WITH 108...AND SO WERE BOTH
CHAMBERLAIN AND KENNEBEC...WITH 106. THE FAR EAST ONLY WARMED INTO
THE MID AND UPPER 80S. MADISON WAS ONE OF THE LEAST WARM PLACES...
TOPPING OUT AT 84 DEGREES. SIOUX FALLS AND SISSETON WERE JUST A
LITTLE WARMER...BOTH REACHING 88. IN THE BLACK HILLS...CUSTER PEAKED
AT 91 DEGREES.

AT 8 PM CDT / 7 PM MDT...A CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKY WAS OVER THE
MAJORITY OF SOUTH DAKOTA...EXCEPT FOR A BATCH OF CLOUDS BETWEEN
GUSTAVE AND VALE...AND A CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS BETWEEN ROSCOE AND
FREDRICK. TEMPERATURES WERE MOSTLY IN THE MID 80S TO MID 90S.
EXTREMES ACROSS THE PLAINS RANGED FROM 82 AT WATERTOWN...TO 99 AT
WINNER. IN THE BLACK HILLS...CUSTER WAS DOWN TO 83 DEGREES.

OVERNIGHT...A CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKY WILL CONTINUE OVER ALL BUT
THE NORTHEAST QUARTER OF SOUTH DAKOTA. THE NORTHEAST WILL BE MOSTLY
CLOUDY...WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS...A FEW OF THEM SEVERE...
THROUGH ABOUT MIDNIGHT. LOW TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE PLAINS SHOULD
RANGE FROM AROUND 60 IN THE NORTHWEST...TO THE LOW 70S IN THE
SOUTHEAST. IN THE BLACK HILLS...MINIMUMS ARE FORECAST TO DROP INTO
THE 50S.
