A CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKY AND LIGHT WINDS OVERNIGHT ALLOWED
TEMPERATURES TO DROP INTO THE 40S AT MOST LOCATIONS ACROSS SOUTH
DAKOTA. COOL AND DRY HIGH PRESSURE REMAINED IN CONTROL OF THE
WEATHER ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS REGION...BUT AS THE CENTER OF THE
HIGH DRIFTED EASTWARD...WINDS WEST OF THE MOUNTAIN TIME ZONE LINE
WERE BECOMING SOUTHEAST. TEMPERATURES WERE WARMING MODERATELY UNDER
A MOSTLY SUNNY TO SUNNY SKY ACROSS THE STATE THIS MORNING...REACHING
THE UPPER 50S TO MID 60S BY 10 AM CDT. SOME OF THE EASTERN THIRD WAS
BECOMING PARTLY SUNNY.

LOW TEMPERATURES ACROSS SOUTH DAKOTA THIS MORNING WERE MORE TYPICAL
OF MID SEPTEMBER THAN MID JULY. AT LEAST THREE NEW RECORD LOWS WERE
SET THIS MORNING. RAPID CITY WENT DOWN TO 45 DEGREES...BREAKING THE
RECORD OF 46 FROM 1972. WINNER WENT DOWN TO 46 DEGREES...BREAKING
THE RECORD OF 50 FROM 1973. PIERRE WENT DOWN TO 46 DEGREES...
BREAKING THE RECORD OF 52 FROM 1961. THE BLACK HILLS AREA WAS THE
COOLEST SECTION OF THE STATE...WITH MINIMUMS VARYING FROM 34 DEGREES
AT NEMO...TO 38 AT BOTH CUSTER AND PACTOLA DAM. ON THE HIGH
PLAINS...COTTONWOOD WAS ONE OF THE COOLER SPOTS...DIPPING TO 40
DEGREES. SOME OF THE EASTERN THIRD OF SOUTH DAKOTA WAS NOT QUITE AS
COOL THIS MORNING...HOLDING IN THE LOWER 50S. WESSINGTON SPRINGS WAS
THE APPARENT MILD SPOT...ONLY SLIPPING TO 52 DEGREES. ROY LAKE...
SIOUX FALLS...SISSETON...AND VICTOR WERE ALL CLOSE BEHIND...WITH 50.

THIS AFTERNOON WILL BRING A MOSTLY SUNNY TO SUNNY SKY TO THE WESTERN
HALF OF SOUTH DAKOTA...WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES REACHING THE LOW TO
MID 70S ON THE PLAINS...AND MID TO UPPER 60S IN THE BLACK HILLS.
MEANWHILE...THE EASTERN HALF OF THE STATE WILL BE PARTLY TO MOSTLY
SUNNY...WITH HIGHS MAINLY IN THE 70 TO 75 DEGREE RANGE.
