...A DRY AND WINDY OCTOBER 2014 FOR COLD BAY ALASKA...

OCTOBER 2014 FOR COLD BAY BEGAN WITH A HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE BERING SEA SLOWLY
RETREATING TO THE NORTH ALLOWING FOR A SERIES OF FRONTS...TROUGHS...AND LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEMS TO BEGIN TO TRANSITION OVER THE ALEUTIAN PENINSULA.  THUS
TRANSITIONING INTO AUTUMN.

THE SERIES OF FRONTS...TROUGHS...AND LOWS MOVING THROUGH THE AREA BROUGHT ABOUT
STRONG WINDS THROUGHOUT THE MONTH. THE AVERAGE PEAK WIND DURING THE MONTH WAS THE
5TH STRONGEST ON RECORD...AND THE MONTHLY AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 6TH STRONGEST ON
RECORD.

MONTHLY TEMPERATURE AVERAGES WERE ALL ON PAR WITH THE CLIMATIC NORMALS. NO
TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET THIS MONTH.

PRECIPITATION FOR OCTOBER 2014 WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL AND THE THIRD DRIEST ON
RECORD. COLD BAY FINISHED THE MONTH WITH A DEFICIT OF OVER 2.50 INCHES.
