...THE FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM AKDT SATURDAY FOR
A GLACIAL DAMMED LAKE OUTBURST FOR THE MENDENHALL RIVER AND LAKE...

AT 1015 AM AKDT...BOTH THE LAKE LEVEL AND RIVER CONTINUE TO RISE
ABOVE MODERATE FLOOD STAGE. THE MENDENHALL RIVER STAGE AT 10 AM AKDT
ON FRIDAY WAS 12.5 FEET. THE MENDENHALL LAKE LEVEL WAS 10.4 FEET
ALSO AT 10 AM.

MAXIMUM FLOOD LEVEL FOR THE MENDENHALL RIVER WILL BE APPROXIMATELY
15 FEET AND IS CURRENTLY EXPECTED TO OCCUR AROUND 4 PM FRIDAY
AFTERNOON. THE PREDICTED MAXIMUM FLOOD LEVEL FOR MENDENHALL LAKE IS
APPROXIMATELY 12 FEET ALSO AROUND 4 PM FRIDAY.

PROPERTY OWNERS ALONG THE MENDENHALL RIVER SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE
AFTERNOON HIGH TIDE OF APPROXIMATELY 16 FEET AT 2 PM FRIDAY
AFTERNOON. THIS WILL RESULT IN POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT BACKWATER AS
THE RIVER APPROACHES A CREST LATER IN THE AFTERNOON AND INCREASES
THE RISK OF BANK EROSION. SOME DEBRIS SUCH AS BRANCHES HAVE ALREADY
BEEN OBSERVED IN THE RIVER FLOW.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN REPORTED.
STREAM RISES WILL BE SLOW AND FLASH FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED.
HOWEVER...ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS
IMMEDIATELY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

IF YOU LIVE NEAR OR ALONG THE MENDENHALL RIVER STAY ALERT AND BE
PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION. EXPECT INUNDATION TO OCCUR IN AREAS THAT
HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY FLOODED.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER
CROSSINGS. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...
ON FOOT. IF YOU ENCOUNTER A FLOODED ROADWAY...TURN AROUND...DONT
DROWN.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

PLEASE STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL
WEATHER NEWS SOURCE FOR UPDATES ON THIS SITUATION.
