FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
940 AM PDT THU AUG 21 2014

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...AFTER A CRISP MORNING...DAYTIME TEMPERATURES
WILL REMAIN NEAR TO A LITTLE BELOW AUGUST NORMALS THROUGH FRIDAY.
WEAK SURFACE LOW PRESSURE OFFSHORE WILL WEAKEN PRESSURE GRADIENTS
LEADING TO SLIGHTLY LIGHTER ONSHORE FLOW TODAY. AS LOW PRESSURE MOVES
ONSHORE NORTHWEST FLOW SHOULD INCREASE AGAIN FRIDAY. THIS SYSTEM MAY
ALSO PRODUCE A FEW SHOWERS OR AREAS OF DRIZZLE.

.DISCUSSION...ONSHORE FLOW PERSISTS ACROSS THE REGION AS AN UPPER
LEVEL TROUGH SINKS INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FROM THE BRITISH
COLUMBIA COAST. WEAK LOWER PRESSURE AND A SURFACE COLD FRONT OFFSHORE
WILL LIKELY WEAKEN THE PRESSURE GRADIENTS A BIT THIS AFTERNOON...
LOWERING THE WIND SPEEDS SLIGHTLY VERSUS YESTERDAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL
MOVE ONSHORE OVERNIGHT...WITH SOME AREAS OF DRIZZLE THROUGHOUT THE
REGION. A FEW LINGERING SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE IN THE CASCADES FRIDAY
WITH THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE OF A STRAY THUNDERSTORM NEAR MOUNT ADAMS
FRIDAY AFTERNOON. ALL OF THIS WILL KEEP TEMPERATURES A TAD BELOW
NORMAL THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. ONSHORE FLOW WILL ALSO INTENSIFY
AGAIN FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AS LOW PRESSURE MOVES EAST OF THE
CASCADES AND HIGHER PRESSURE STRENGTHENS OFFSHORE. A TREND TOWARD
WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER IS EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND AND INTO EARLY
NEXT WEEK AS AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE STRENGTHENS AND BUILDS NORTHWARD
FROM CALIFORNIA. WEAGLE
