SUPERIOR TODAY THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...
...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR THE FAR NORTH SHORE AND FOR AREAS OF
THE SOUTH SHORE EAST OF BAYFIELD PENINSULA FOR TODAY THROUGH
THURSDAY MORNING...

.A STRONG SPRING STORM SYSTEM WILL AFFECT THE WESTERN GREAT LAKES
REGION TODAY INTO THURSDAY MORNING. A STRENGTHENING AREA OF
LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE FROM NEAR SIOUX FALLS SOUTH DAKOTA
THIS MORNING TO THE EASTERN UPPER PENINSULA OF MICHIGAN BY
THURSDAY AFTERNOON. STRONG EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS WILL DEVELOP
OVER WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR TODAY IN RESPONSE TO THE APPROACHING
STORM SYSTEM. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE NEAR THE HEAD OF THE
LAKE AND ALONG THE WESTERN SIDE OF BAYFIELD PENINSULA TO THE
APOSTLE ISLANDS. THE WINDS SHOULD GRADUALLY SUBSIDE LATE THIS
EVENING INTO THURSDAY MORNING.

WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 4 AM CDT
THURSDAY.

* WINDS...BECOMING EAST TO NORTHEAST 25 TO 30 KNOTS WITH GALE
  FORCE GUSTS TO 40 KNOTS BY EARLY THIS EVENING.

* WAVES...LESS THAN 2 FT IN ICE COVERED AREAS...WHICH IS MOST OF
  THE WATERS RIGHT NOW. HOWEVER...THE WINDS COULD BEGIN TO BREAK
  UP THE ICE AND GENERATE HIGHER WAVES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A GALE WARNING MEANS WINDS OF 34 TO 47 KNOTS ARE IMMINENT OR
OCCURRING. OPERATING A VESSEL IN GALE CONDITIONS REQUIRES
EXPERIENCE AND PROPERLY EQUIPPED VESSELS. IT IS HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED THAT MARINERS WITHOUT THE PROPER EXPERIENCE SEEK SAFE
HARBOR PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF GALE CONDITIONS.

WINDS AND WAVES WILL ALSO INTERACT WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF WINTER
LAKE ICE TO PILE UP ICE ON ANY SHORELINES...HARBORS AND HARBOR
APPROACHES THAT ARE EXPOSED TO THE NORTHEAST. IN ADDITION...LAKE
ICE EMBEDDED WITHIN THE WAVES COULD RESULT IN VERY DANGEROUS
CONDITIONS FOR ANY VESSELS ON WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR.
