...WEATHER RADAR IN BOISE GETS UPGRADE...

The WSR-88D doppler weather radar used by the National Weather
Service forecast office in Boise, ID is being upgraded and will be
offline today. It will take three or four days to complete the
upgrade and the radar is expected to be returned to service on or
before Thursday, November 17th.

During the outage, radar coverage from adjacent radar
sites in Pendleton, Elko, and Pocatello will provide some limited
coverage in southwestern Idaho and southeastern Oregon.

During the upgrade, a crew will install a new signal processor,
which replaces obsolete technology, improves processing speed and
data quality, provides added functionality, and supports IT
security. This is the first of four major upgrades known as
service of life extension projects, planned in the next five years
to replace and refurbish major components of the 20 year old
radars and to keep the radars operational into the 2030s.
