                ICE COVER CONDITIONS AS OF 12/12/17

MISSISSIPPI RIVER
THE FIRST ICE OF THE SEASON HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THE MISSISSIPPI
RIVER OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS FOLLOWING A COLD SPELL SINCE EARLY
LAST WEEK.

LOCK AND DAM 4 REPORTED 50 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE THIS MORNING WITH
ICE 3 INCHES THICK. LD5A REPORTED 50 PERCENT COVERAGE WITH ICE 1
INCH THICK. LD6 REPORTED 100 PERCENT COVERAGE WITH ICE 3 INCHES
THICK. LD8 REPORTED 40 PERCENT COVERAGE WITH ICE 1 INCH THICK AND
EXTENDING FOR 15 MILES UPSTREAM. LD12 REPORTED 10 PERCENT COVERAGE
WITH ICE HALF AN INCH THICK.

WATER TEMPERATURES COOLED DOWN A FEW DEGREES SINCE LAST WEEK.
WATER TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE 32 TO 34 DEGREES FROM LD1
TO LD17 AND 36 TO 43 DEGRES FROM LD18 TO LD27.

ILLINOIS RIVER SYSTEM (CHICAGO/ILLINOIS R)
NO ICE HAS BEEN REPORTED YET ON THE ILLINOIS. WATER TEMPERATURES
RANGED FROM 34 TO 42 DEGREES THIS MORNING.  THIS IS ABOUT 10
DEGREES COOLER THAN LAST WEEK.

CURRENT CONDITIONS AS OF 12/12/17:

OUTLOOK FOR NEXT 7 DAYS:
BELOW NORMAL AIR TEMPERATURES TODAY ARE EXPECTED TO MODERATE INTO
THE NORMAL RANGE TOMORROW AND TO ABOVE NORMAL THIS WEEKEND AND
INTO NEXT WEEK.

IN THE NORTH, HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE 20S THEN WARMING
INTO THE LOW 30S NEXT WEEK.  LOWS WILL BE MOSTLY IN THE TEENS THEN
WARMING INTO THE 20S ON SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

IN THE SOUTH, HIGHS WILL BE MOSTLY IN THE 30S AND 40S AND WARMING
TO AROUND 50 NEAR ST LOUIS THIS WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK.  LOWS WILL
BE MOSTLY IN THE 20S THIS WEEK AND 30S NEXT WEEK.

IN OUR REGION...LOW TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE 3 DEGREES
IN ST CLOUD, 7 DEGREES IN THE TWIN CITIES, 13 DEGREES IN
DUBUQUE,19 DEGREES IN MOLINE, 19 DEGREES AT LD19, 20 DEGREES
IN PEORIA, AND 31 DEGREES IN ST LOUIS.

BASED ON THESE FACTORS...ICE SHOULD CONTINUE TO SLOWLY DEVELOP AND
THICKEN IN THE NORTH THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK, UPSTREAM OF AROUND
LD18.  NO NEW ICE IS EXPECTED DOWNSTREAM OF AROUND LD18. A LITTLE
ICE COULD DEVELOP ON THE UPPER ILLINOIS THIS WEEK.

THE NEXT ICE STATEMENT WILL BE RELEASED ON TUESDAY..DEC 19 2017.
