Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Jackson KY
230 PM EDT WED JUL 27 2016

Low temperatures this morning were spread throughout the low 70`s
under partly cloudy skies. At daybreak, showers were present
along the Kentucky and Tennessee border and were drifting slowly
to the northeast. The mesonet station in Clinton county showed
that 0.35 inches of rain had fallen since midnight.

At noontime temperatures had risen into the mid 80s with a few
isolated showers moving through the area. Since midnight a few
hundredths of an inch of rain has fallen in counties along the
Tennessee border.

A stalled frontal boundary stretched along the Ohio River and a
very juicy airmass will keep the weather unsettled. Showers and
thunderstorms will be in the forecast for the remainder of the
week, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. The best
chance for significant rainfall will be this evening into Thursday
as a low pressure system moves through the area. One to two
inches of rainfall is possible as the storms track through the
region. East Kentuckians should monitor their surroundings
especially this evening and Thursday for the possibility of flash

The rain through the remainder of the week should help to keep
daytime highs in the mid and upper 80s. This should feel good
after the past 5-day heat wave we experienced.

On this day in weather history, back in 1993, a heat wave was
being experienced across the region. From the 25th through the
28th of July, Jackson recorded 4 new record highs. The new records
were 97, 97, 91 and 94 degrees, respectively. London also recorded
a new record high of 96 degrees on the 26th. During that stretch
of hot weather, Mount Sterling and Farmers hit 98 degrees on the
26th. On the 27th, Williamsburg and Farmers recorded daytime highs
of 98 degrees.
