REGIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY
348 PM EDT WED APR 23 2014

CLEAR SKIES OVERSPREAD EASTERN KENTUCKY THIS MORNING...WITH 7 AM
TEMPERATURE READINGS GENERALLY RANGING FROM THE MID 30S IN THE
VALLEYS TO THE MID 40S ON THE RIDGES. TYPICAL LOWS FOR TODAY ARE IN
THE MID TO UPPER 40S. TWENTY FOUR HOUR RAINFALL TOTALS WERE
LIGHT...RANGING FROM A TRACE TO A FEW HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH AT MOST
LOCATIONS.

BY MID AFTERNOON...MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WERE IN PLACE ACROSS THE
COALFIELDS. TEMPERATURES WERE GENERALLY IN THE LOWER TO MID 60S.
THESE TEMPERATURES ARE UNSEASONABLY COOL FOR THIS DAY IN APRIL WHEN
HIGH ARE TYPICALLY IN THE LOWER 70S.

AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP DRY WEATHER IN PLACE
ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY THROUGH THE DAY ON MONDAY. LOWS TONIGHT WILL
ONCE AGAIN BOTTOM OUT IN THE MID 30S IN THE VALLEYS TO THE LOWER 40S
ON THE RIDGES. SOME SHELTERED VALLEY LOCATIONS COULD EXPERIENCE
INSTANCES OF FROST LATE TONIGHT INTO THE EARLY MORNING ON THURSDAY.
THURSDAY WILL BE WARMER...WITH NEAR NORMAL HIGHS IN THE LOWER TO MID
70S. A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION...BRINGING A LIKELY
CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE COALFIELDS THURSDAY NIGHT
INTO FRIDAY MORNING. A PLEASANT START TO THE WEEKEND IS ON TAP FOR
THE REGION WITH MILD WEATHER AND NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S
ON SATURDAY. HOWEVER...CHANCES OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...MAINLY
IN THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE AREA...ARE POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY.

ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...IN 1986...AN UNSEASONABLY COLD AIR
MASS BROUGHT SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES TO EASTERN KENTUCKY. THE
JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT BOTH SET RECORD
LOWS FOR THE DAY OF 29 DEGREES AND 31 DEGREES RESPECTIVELY. BOTH OF
THESE RECORDS REMAIN IN PLACE TODAY. CLIMATE RECORDS FOR JACKSON
DATE BACK TO 1981...WHILE DATA FOR LONDON DATES BACK TO 1954.
