...BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE FOR AN HOUR OR
TWO THIS AFTERNOON...

THE COMBINATION OF GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS AND VERY DRY AIR HAS LEAD
TO NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTH
CENTRAL TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON. MANY WEATHER REPORTING STATIONS ARE
ALREADY SHOWING HUMIDITIES BELOW 20 PERCENT. ALTHOUGH WINDS ARE
FORECAST TO WEAKEN SLOWLY THROUGH THE AFTERNOON...SOME AREAS MAY
EXPERIENCE WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR
SO AS THE HUMIDITIES REMAIN VERY LOW...CREATING CRITICAL FIRE
CONDITIONS. THESE CONDITIONS WILL INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF QUICK
SPREADING GRASS FIRES. IF THE CRITICAL CONDITIONS BECOME
MORE WIDESPREAD AND LAST LONGER...A RED FLAG WARNING MAY BE
ISSUED LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

THIS FIRE THREAT SHOULD QUICKLY DECREASE BY LATE AFTERNOON AND
EARLY EVENING AS THE WINDS DECREASE AND HUMIDITIES START TO
INCREASE.

GO TO WEATHER.GOV/AUSTIN FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION...FORECASTS
AND WARNINGS.
