.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 428 AM CDT Tue Apr 16 2024

Strong to severe thunderstorms continue to impact the area early
this morning as a QLCS continues to move across the region. Hail
and gusty winds are expected with any thunderstorms. Additionally,
isolated spin ups within the line will remain possible. A Tornado
Watch remains in effect through 8AM for the eastern and northern
portions of the area. Gusty winds behind the main line of
thunderstorms also remain possible over the next several hours.
Showers and thunderstorms will remain possible heading into the day
Tuesday.

A closed low continues to move across south central Nebraska and
north central Kansas during the day Tuesday. A cold front will move
through the region, with cooler air filtering in behind it. Highs
will range from the mid-60s in the northwestern portion of the area,
to the low to mid-70s in the eastern portions of our Nebraska
counties and north central Kansas. Southwest winds will become
northwesterly behind the front, around 25-35mph with gusts as high
as 45mph.

The cool down will be short-lived as temperatures return to the 70s
for most locations on Wednesday. The next chance for precipitation
will be Wednesday evening into Thursday as an upper trough drops
into the region. Overnight, temperatures will fall into the 30s and
40s across the region. Areas along and west of a line from Cozad to
Ord may see a period of rain, possibly mixing with snow early
Thursday morning as temperatures fall into the mid-30s.

Friday through the end of the forecast period, there is a chance of
periodic rain showers, possibly mixed with a little snow (night time
hours). This will be due to several disturbances moving through the
region. Considerable uncertainty remains in timing, location,
and coverage of precipitation.
