PRECIPITATION RANKINGS FOR GRAND ISLAND AND HASTINGS NEBRASKA...

See below regarding climate details for Grand Island and Hastings
airports, our two primary climate sites for which we routinely
issue climate records and statistics. All normals are based on
official 1981-2010 data from NCEI (National Centers for
Environmental Information):

- Mean temperature (average of highs/lows) was 73.7 degrees (0.5
degrees below normal). As a result, this was a rather "normal"
August temperature-wise.

- Rainfall: 0.57 inches (2.55 below normal). This was the
3rd-driest August on record, trailing only 0.33" in 1919 and
0.50" in 1940.


Meteorological Summer Stats (June-August):
- Mean temperature (average of the 3 months) was 75.3 degrees
(1.5 degrees above normal). However, this above normal summer
average was strongly influenced by June alone, which averaged 5.1
degrees above normal.

- Precipitation: 4.72 inches (6.10 below normal of 10.82 inches).
This was the 6th-driest meteorological summer on record, and was
the driest since the infamous drought of 2012, which was the
record-driest summer with only 2.37".

- Mean temperature (average of highs/lows) was 74.1 degrees (0.2
degrees below normal). As a result, this was a fairly "normal"
August temperature-wise.

- Rainfall: 1.77 inches (1.53 below normal). This was the
28th-driest August on record, and the driest since 1.47 inches in
2008. The driest August on record was 0.37" in 1919.


Meteorological Summer Stats (June-August):
- Mean temperature (average of the 3 months) was 75.8 degrees
(1.4 degrees above normal). However, this above normal summer
average was strongly influenced by June, which averaged 4.7
degrees above normal.

- Precipitation: 4.74 inches (6.10 below normal of 10.84 inches).
This was the 6th-driest meteorological summer on record, and was
the driest since 2002 (4.60"). The record-driest meteorological
summer on record featured only 4.34" in 1922.

  Cooperative Observer reports between 1907 and June 1996, with
  records since July 1996 from the automated sensor (ASOS) at
  Hastings Municipal Airport. Precipitation records at Hastings
  are based on cooperative observer reports between 1895 and March
  1998, with records since April 1998 primarily from the automated
  airport gauge.
