..JULY 2016 TEMPERATURE AND PRECIPITATION STATISTICS/RANKINGS FOR
GRAND ISLAND AND HASTINGS NEBRASKA...

See below regarding climate details for Grand Island and Hastings
airports, our two primary climate sites for which we routinely
issue climate records and statistics. All normals are based on
official 1981-2010 data from NCEI (National Centers for
Environmental Information):

-----------------------------------------------------------------

..GRAND ISLAND CENTRAL NEBRASKA REGIONAL AIRPORT..
(July records cover 121 years dating back to 1896)

                    July 2016 Quick Statistics
          Temperature Rainfall
AVG. DEPART. MAX MIN TOTAL DEPART.
       76.0 -0.2 99 55 4.10 +0.70

- Mean temperature (average of highs/lows) was 76.0 degrees
(0.2 below normal). Somewhat surprisingly, the month as a whole
averaged just below normal, despite a notably hot
stretch from the 19th-23rd that ending up being the hottest
5-day stretch in four years. Part of the reason for the
overall below-normal average involved a few VERY cool days
such as the 2nd and 3rd, when the high temperature only
reached 65 degrees.

- Rainfall: 4.10 inches (0.70 above normal). Following a bone-dry
June, Grand Island had its 28th-wettest July on record, and the
wettest since 2011. The wettest day was the 30th with 1.67 inches.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

..HASTINGS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT..
(July temperature records cover 110 years dating to 1907*)
(July precipitation records cover 122 years dating to 1895*)

                    July 2016 Quick Statistics
          Temperature Rainfall
AVG. DEPART. MAX MIN TOTAL DEPART.
       76.9 -0.2 100 59 2.22 -1.52

- Mean temperature (average of highs/lows) was 76.9 degrees
(0.2 below normal). Somewhat surprisingly, the month as a whole
averaged just below normal, despite a notably hot
stretch from the 19th-23rd that ending up being the hottest
5-day stretch in four years. Part of the reason for the
overall below-normal average involved a few VERY cool days
such as the 2nd and 3rd, when the high temperature only
reached 68 and 66 degrees, respectively.

- Rainfall: 2.22 inches (1.52 below normal). The wettest day was
the 5th with 0.44 inches. At the airport, this was the 3rd-
consecutive month of below normal rainfall. However, there was an
INCREDIBLE difference in rainfall over a short distance in the
immediate Hastings area. The NWS office (only 4 miles away)
received 6.02", more than 2.5 times as much as the airport!

* NOTE: Temperature records at Hastings are based on NWS
Cooperative Observer reports between 1907 and June 1996, with
records since July 1996 from the automated sensor (ASOS) at
Hastings Municipal Airport. Precipitation records at Hastings
are based on cooperative observer reports between 1895 and March
1998, with records since April 1998 primarily from the
  automated airport gauge.
