Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Hastings NE

...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 11/27/2016 TORNADO EVENT...

...Three tornadoes in south central Nebraska on Sunday...

Three (3) tornadoes were confirmed to have occurred on Sunday,
November 27, 2016 via a National Weather Service damage survey
and several reports.

Near Upland...a combination of reports and a search for damage
were used to determine a short, roughly one minute long tornado
occurred. This tornado was rated EF-0 with a peak wind at 70 mph.

East of Red Cloud...an EF-1 rated tornado uprooted trees,
destroyed an outbuilding, upset two irrigation pivots and
caused other minor damage on its 2.4 mile path. Peak winds
were estimated at 95 mph.

East of Lawrence...a brief EF-0 rated tornado caused very minor
damage on its short path through rural areas. Peak winds
were estimated at 75 mph with this tornado. This tornado had
a 1.6 mile path.

Regarding the thunderstorm which produced the tornadoes near
Lawrence and Red Cloud, it is certainly possible there may have
been other brief touchdowns between the two confirmed tornadoes.
However, no other damage was found nor has been reported at this
point. There were reports noting the bouncy and up and down nature
of the torandic circulation portion of the thunderstorm as it
moved northeast.

NWS Hastings would like to thank the spotters, law enforcement,
storm chasers and general public for all the reports and comments
about the storms on Sunday. The pictures and videos are greatly
appreciated and helpful in determining torando damage and path
implications.

A statistical summary of the tornadoes follow. More information
will be available on the NWS Hastings website later tonight or
Tuesday morning.
